Sunfall, the City that Really Needs a Pithy Description
Well, in a gesture that feels like it marks the point of no return, I have produced some first notes on a potential RPG setting. It seems like it still wants a lot of polish (and what I've written out feels rather generic and not-all-that-Creation-y), but it might help give pointers towards what sort of characters might work in it. And I reckon that posting the thing now as soon as I've stopped writing stuff on it will at least mean that I won't then sit on it for weeks endlessly agonising and tweaking inconsequential details. Suggestions and observations (and requests for holes that need patching, or for entirely new settings if this sounds like it won't work, or anything) from those who might have to suffer through it are always welcomed, naturally. I am far from averse to changing things around; the more you guys tell me you want, the less thinking I have to do! (Outstanding omissions I'm aware of so far include: religion and gods, and the surrounding cities and area.) Anyway. No Mountain Too Mountainous, Chapter Five, Part Four
This scene technically belongs before the previous one, I think. Not that it really matters much. Something tells me that this marks the final scene written as part of NaNoWriMo itself. The rest of the novel... well, that'll just be some idiot writing in his free time for no particular reason, naturally. I can't wait to do something else with my free time again. The Girl From Farther Afield, Chapter Four, Part One
In conclusion, I've definitely stalled on words, as always happens towards the end of the month. The writing energy has deserted me, and I'm now slowing down significantly. Won't be hitting 110k by end of play tomorrow by any stretch of the imagination. On the other hand... as of this scene, The Girl From Farther Afield has now officially passed the 50k mark. Yes, I have somehow managed to hit target on both novels, which was my one true goal. Seriously, how awesome is that? The Girl From Farther Afield, Chapter Two, Part Four
Because what can possibly be a better idea for NaNoWriMo than to introduce someone who is inevitably going to be an absolute nightmare to write in character properly? (Also, seriously, forty thousand words and this is as far as I've got? I'm sure by my original plan I was supposed to be at this point in the story after maybe fifteen or so...) No Mountain Too Mountainous, Chapter Four, Part One
6,000 words in one day? Hell yeah! I'm starting to wonder whether I should continue posting NMTM excerpts. I think both its readers just use the Google doc links instead. I think the second of these scenes marks the first time I can remember in which my characters have proven too clever. I think I'm being smart by setting up traps for them to walk into, and then they go and work out that things aren't quite right and start making plans to work around everything. It's most awkward.
